Deciding whether to link a debt to an account

If real money is genuinely moving — you're making payments from a bank account, say — link the debt to that account so each payment becomes an actual transaction and updates your balance.

If real money is genuinely moving — you're making payments from a bank account, say — link the debt to that account so each payment becomes an actual transaction and updates your balance. If it's more of a personal tally, like tracking what a friend owes you, leave it unlinked; nothing will show up in your transactions or touch your balances, but you can still track progress toward it being paid off.
