CSV / XLSX Import Wizard

Turn a bank export into a clean ledger in minutes. Upload a CSV or Excel file, map dates and amounts once, review every row, and import, all or nothing.

From bank export to ledger, one decision per screen

The import wizard walks you through seven steps: upload, dates, amounts, account, balance, extras and review. Each screen asks one question, with a sample of your own rows above it so you always map against real data.

Files can be CSV or Excel (.xlsx or .xls). Amounts can come from one signed column or from separate debit and credit columns, and each row's transaction type is worked out from them.

In practice

Built for messy, real-world exports

Headers on row five? Point to the row. No headers at all? Name the columns yourself. Dates in a Jalali or Hijri calendar? Say so and they are converted to Gregorian. Starting from an empty account and the balance does not match your bank? Derive the opening balance from a running-balance column or from a figure you know.

On the review screen every row is editable, validated as you type, and only the rows you keep selected are imported. If any selected row fails validation, nothing is created, so you never end up with half a statement.

Review before anything lands

Edit dates, types, categories, amounts and accounts row by row and deselect what you do not want. Imported expenses still match your budgets automatically.

Optional AI categories

Let Rasa AI suggest categories from a description column, then review and correct them. Suggestions are only ever presented for review, never written automatically.

Pro import

The import wizard is a Pro feature, and AI category detection is gated separately. Imported rows are always one-time transactions.

The seven steps

  1. Upload: drop a CSV or Excel file and tell us which row holds the column titles.
  2. Dates: pick the date column, its calendar (Gregorian or Jalali) and its format.
  3. Amounts: use one signed column, or separate expense and income columns.
  4. Account: choose the account, and optionally a default category or AI category detection.
  5. Balance: on a brand-new account, set an opening or ending balance so the ledger matches your bank.
  6. Extras: optionally map status, note, commission, cheque and tracking numbers.
  7. Review: fix any issues, choose the rows you want, and import.

Your data is never locked in

Import is one half of data portability. You can also export your data as a ZIP archive from Settings whenever you like.

FAQ

Which file types can I import?

CSV and Excel files (.xlsx and .xls). The wizard shows the size and row limits when you upload, so split very large statements into batches.

Can the import create recurring subscriptions?

No. Imported rows are one-time transactions. Create recurring series from the Recurring Transactions page.

Can I import into an account that already has transactions?

Yes. Only the opening-balance reconciliation step needs a brand-new account with no balance and no transactions.

Is my file stored?

Uploaded files are processed in memory and are not written to disk.
