Most “AI for money” products are a chat window with a personality. They can explain compound interest. They cannot see that your EUR grocery budget is 80% spent and a USD retainer lands on Friday.
An assistant that cannot read your ledger is a search engine with extra steps.
Ask questions of the books you already keep. Summaries, imports, and answers should come from your accounts — in the language you actually use.
What a useful question sounds like
You already know the questions. You ask them in your head, then go hunting across apps:
- What did I spend on eating out in euros this month?
- Which subscriptions renew before I get paid?
- If this invoice lands in USD, does the GBP rent still fit?
- What does Rasa think changed since last week?
Those are ledger questions. They need transactions, budgets, recurrences and rates — not a generic paragraph about “tracking your spending.”
Language is part of the product
If you think in Turkish and your merchant names are in English, you should still be able to ask in Turkish. Dates, month names, and the answer should follow the language you picked — the same way the rest of the app does.
An assistant that only works in English is an assistant for one of your timezones.
Import is where AI earns its keep
The painful part of a finance app is not charts. It is getting last quarter out of a CSV without wrecking categories.
A model that can read a file, propose mappings, and let you confirm is doing work you would otherwise abandon. A model that only writes pep talks is not.
Human confirmation still matters. You own the books. The assistant proposes; you keep the ledger honest.
Summaries should be boring
A good weekly summary is short: what came in, what left, which budget is tight, what is due next. If it needs a metaphor, it is hiding missing data.
When the summary disagrees with the dashboard, trust the dashboard and fix the data. The assistant is a lens, not a second set of books.
Privacy is the constraint, not a footnote
Financial records are not prompt fodder for the open internet. The data the assistant sees should be the data you already stored to run the product. You should be able to export or delete it. No bank credentials, because there is no bank connection to begin with.
If a tool cannot say that plainly, it is not ready to read a ledger.
What we built
Rasa AI sits on top of the same accounts, budgets, recurring payments and debts you already entered. It can summarise, answer in your language, and help import files. It does not hold your money and it does not replace your judgement.
The test is simple: ask it something you would have asked a spreadsheet. If the answer could have been written without your data, it failed.
